Saudi Arabia shell-shock Lionel Messi-led Argentina with 2-1 win in FIFA World Cup

In one of the biggest shocks in the history of the FIFA World Cup,  Underdogs Saudi Arabia defeated Lionel Messi-led Argentina in an amazing second half comeback of the Group C opening match.

scored a 10th minute penalty in a dominant first half display where he and Lautaro Martinez also had three goals disallowed for offside.

It was a catastrophe for World football superstar Messi , 35, who is making his fifth and final attempt to bring home the only major trophy that has eluded him so far.

Saudi Arabia, the second-lowest ranked team in the tournament, went on an all-out offensive in the second half backed by a frenzied 88,012 home crowd.

First, Saleh Al-Shehri scored with a low shot in the 48th minute. Then, Salem Al-Dawsari, to everyone’s  amazement, struck home with a curled shot from the edge of the penalty area in the 53rd minute to leave Argentina and Messi in a complete daze.
