He counter attacked England&rsquo;s pace offensive to gain the psychological advantage, hitting ace pacer John Leach for two fours and a six off three consecutive balls.</p>

Pant went on to make his half-century off just 51 deliveries at the Tea break.</p>
<p>
He had hit six boundaries which included a 6, taking India to a more respectable 174/5 at the tea break. Ravindra Jadeja was batting on 32, while Pant was on 53.</p>
<p>
The counter- offensive came as a welcome relief immediately after India lost key batsman Hanuma Vihari and Virat Kohli in quick succession.</p>
