India’s javelin champion Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal at the Kuortane Games in Finland with a throw of 86.69 metres on Saturday beating world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago's Keshorn Walcott.

Neeraj came up with his best throw in the very first attempt setting a mark that his rivals could not surpass. After a nasty slip due to the rainy conditions while executing his third throw, he decided not to go in for any further attempts.

Walcott finished second with a throw of 86.64 metres and Peters came at the third spot with a best throw of 84.75 metres.

This was Neeraj Chopra’s second competition after winning the first Olympic gold medal in athletics at the Tokyo Olympics Games.

The Indian army man won the silver medal earlier this week at the Paavo Nurmi Games, with a throw of 89.30 metres which also broke his own national record of 88.07 metres established in March last year.
