It was a historic moment for Indian democracy as the country’s upper house the Rajya Sabha witnessed a novel scene. On Tuesday for a small period of time, the chair, the secretariat table was occupied by women while a lady MP was addressing the House.

The RS officials described it aptly as an ode to “naari shakti”. The footage shows Phangnon Konyak presiding over the proceedings of the RS and Mamata Mohan speaking in the House while it also highlighted the women officials occupying the secretariat table.
