UN Security Council Report Exposes Pakistan-Linked TRF in Pahalgam Terror Attack

by ANI

In a significant diplomatic and counterterrorism breakthrough for India, a recent report by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has directly implicated The Resistance Front (TRF), a known proxy of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT), in the deadly attack in Pahalgam earlier this year. This marks the first time LeT has been explicitly named in such a UN report since 2019.

The report, compiled by the UNSC’s monitoring team, confirms that TRF not only claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam assault twice but also circulated a photograph of the attack site, lending strong credence to its role and operational capacity. The document underscores TRF’s ties to LeT and, by extension, its backing from across the border.

India’s proactive diplomacy and intelligence sharing played a pivotal role in shaping the report’s findings. Government sources credit detailed inputs provided by Indian agencies to the UN monitoring team, exposing the nexus between TRF, LeT, and Pakistani state complicity. This effort, they say, successfully countered Pakistan’s long-standing attempts to obscure its involvement in cross-border terrorism.

“This is a vindication of India’s consistent stand on Pakistan’s support for terrorist groups operating in Jammu and Kashmir,” a senior official said. “The international community is no longer buying Islamabad’s denials.”

Adding to TRF’s growing notoriety, the United States earlier this month designated the outfit as both a Foreign Terrorist Organization and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist. The dual classification signals the seriousness with which Washington views TRF’s activities and further isolates the group on the global stage.

Analysts view the UN report as a major diplomatic win for New Delhi, and a step toward increasing international scrutiny of terror financing and state sponsorship of militancy in South Asia. With the TRF and its parent organization now under renewed global spotlight, India is expected to press further for accountability and action against those enabling terrorism from Pakistani soil.
