The Vijayawada Division of South Central Railway achieved another milestone as it flagged off its first oil rake from the newly commissioned Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd Gati Shakti Rail Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal on the first of this month.

It was on 26th April VD had commissioned BPLC GCT at Nellore’s Krishnapatnam, for handling Outwards Petroleum Oil Lubricants. Following this, the first tanker rake loaded with high-speed diesel and motor spirit was dispatched to BPCL, Cherlapalli.

Petroleum oil lubricants weighing 2,693 tonnes were loaded in 50 tank wagons. This is the first ever Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal commissioned in Vijayawada Division SCR.

BPCL GCT has been developed on private land and is served by Krishnapatnam Station on Venkatachalam-Krishnapatnam section of VD. It has been commissioned to handle petroleum oil lubricants for a period of 35 years.

As per traffic projections, the BPCL GCT is expected to handle more than 20 rakes per month.

Gati Shakti Terminals are expected to boost investment from the industry in the development of additional terminals for handling rail cargo. These terminals will help ease the handling of freight commodities for transportation by rail and will provide enhanced facilities for providing safe and secure transportation.

Shivendra Mohan, the Divisional Railway Manager, commended the Vijayawada Division officials for commissioning the new GCT. He also asked them to look for new goods and commodities that can be added to the freight basket of the division, besides the regular conventional traffic.
