Telangana woman who rode scooter 1,400 km to rescue son during Covid lockdown now awaits his return from Ukraine

Razia Begum, the gutsy single mother from Telangana’s Nizamabad, who made headlines by riding her scooter for 1,400 km to fetch her teen son who was stranded in Nellore due to the Covid-19 lockdown, is ironically caught in a worse predicament now. Her son is one of Indian medical students stranded at Sumy in Ukraine.  

Her son Mohammed Nizamuddin Aman, is a first-year MBBS student at Sumy State University and, along with hundreds of other Indian students who have holed up in bomb shelters and are waiting to be evacuated after the Russian military operation began. 

The 52-year-old government teacher has kept in touch with Aman through video calls and has appealed to the state and central government to give the rescue of students from Sumy top priority.
