Sharif government goes on full-scale offensive, accusing Imran Khan of high-level corruption, treason

Sharif's ruling party the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz goes on a full-scale offensive, accusing Imran Khan

Farah Gogi, a friend of  Imran Khan’s third wife Bushra Bibi is in the news again. Pakistan’s ruling party the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) claimed that Farah Khan is involved in the country’s largest money laundering scam, citing an audio clip. The PML-N said that Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and her friend Farah Gogi made "billions" under the tenure of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government headed by Khan.

According to the Pakistani media, the audio clip, which has allowed the Sharif government to go on the offensive,  allegedly features top realtor tycoon  Malik Riaz and his daughter. In the recording, the daughter tells her father that Farah Gogi called to inform that Bushra Bibi, Khan’s wife had asked her not to accept a three-carat diamond ring as “she doesn't like such an ordinary gift”.

In a pincer strike, A case of treason is also being filed against him after Khan warned the Pakistani army and the government of grave consequences for Pakistan if his demand for early elections was not met.

Besides, the Sharif government has also attacked Khan by threatening him with imprisonment for instigating his party workers to go on the rampage in Islamabad during the so-called Long March earlier this month.

During the conversation, the daughter told her father that Farah Gogi allegedly demanded a precious diamond as a gift for the ousted Prime Minister’s wife Bushra Bibi in return for "removing locks" on a project site and withdrawing a report against her father, Dawn reported.

The father allegedly tells the daughter to give a five-carat ring to Bushra Bibi.

The PML-N leader Attaullah Tarar told the media that, “the matter is not confined to diamond dealings as information about the selling of expensive paintings and watches will come to the fore soon”.

"Only the troika of Imran, Bushra Bibi, and Farah Gogi flourished during the PTI government and that was the Naya Pakistan promised by the PTI chief to mislead the nation… Imran Khan, compromised national interests for rings and watches. National interests were sold for mere a five-carat ring,” The News quoted Information and Broadcasting Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb as saying.

In his defence Malik Riaz, told Express Tribune that the audio attributed to him on social media is the product of this (deep-fake) technology.

“I do not want to be involved in the campaign of any political party but it is a fact that my voice was misused for political gain.”

The PML-N countered by saying that the government had acquired more audio recordings as “evidence against corruption of Farah Gogi. The clips could be sent for a forensic test if required.”

Farah Khan alias Farah Gogi came into light in April when she was seen leaving Pakistan in a chartered flight immediately after Imran Khan was removed through a no-confidence vote. The Sharif led Pakistani government has decided to bring her back from Dubai to initiate legal action in the money laundering cases worth millions of dollars.

"And if she does not come here, we will initiate the extradition process to get Farah Khan who is the "front person" of former prime minister Imran Khan who made assets worth Rs.850 million from unknown sources and through money laundering," Aaj TV quoted an official as saying.

Farah Khan, also known as  'Farhat Shehzadi', was considered extremely powerful during Imran Khan's tenure as prime minister as she was known as the only person to have direct access to Bushra Bibi – Khan's spiritual guide and third wife.

Farah Khan is known as Bushra Bibi's closest friend. The wedding of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi was believed to have been held at Farah Khan's residence. According to a Geo News report, Farah Khan who fled amid Pakistan turmoil even attended the Iftar party at Bushra Bibi's sister's house in Abu Dhabi.

The coalition government headed by Shehbaz Sharif alleged Farah received huge sums of money for getting officers transferred and posted according to their choices, calling the scam the "mother of all scandals" amounting to 6 billion Pakistani rupees (USD 32 million). The government said that the relevant agencies have got enough evidence to prosecute Farah and if she does not come on her own, the government will initiate the extradition process to get Farah Khan who is the "front person" of former prime minister Imran Khan.
