Leaked video shows US jet crashing on aircraft carrier and falling into ocean

A new video of the US Navy F-35 warplane crashing on the deck of the USS Carl Vinson last month has gone viral on social media today.

The F-35C Lightning II, assigned to Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 2, had a landing mishap on deck while USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) was conducting routine flight operations in the South China Sea on January 24.

The US Navy, in a statement issued immediately after the accident, had said that the pilot managed to eject safely from the aircraft and was recovered via a US military helicopter.

"There were seven total Sailors injured; three Sailors required MEDEVAC to a medical treatment facility in Manila, Philippines, and four were treated by on-board medical personnel," the statement from the US Pacific Fleet had added saying that the cause of the inflight mishap is under investigation. 

Meanwhile, a new video appeared on social media today, showing the F-35 crashing into the South China Sea.

Various media reports later quoted Commander Hayley Sims, a spokeswoman for the Navy's 7th Fleet, as confirming that the video and images showing the final moments of an F-35C Lightning II landing aboard aircraft carrier as authentic.
