Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has  arrived in India to hold talks with External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar before travelling to Mumbai and Hyderabad.

Iran’s official news agency IRNA is reporting that the visiting minister will hold “ strategic talks” with senior Indian officials.

The news agency said that Amirabdollahian will also hold talks  with Indian religious scholars, local officials and figures, as well as Iranian businessmen and expatriates in India.

The timely decision of Iran,  a leader of the Shia world, to send its top diplomat to New Delhi at a time when there is raging controversy regarding religious tolerance in India signals Tehran’s keenness to engage with India on multiple fronts.
