IAF helicopters rescue 126 people in flood-hit areas of Himachal, Punjab

IAF rescues 126 people; distributes relief materials in Punjab, Himachal & Haryana.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has carried out a total of 40 sorties in which 126 people have been rescued and 17 tons of relief material have been distributed in the flood-hit areas of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.

According to an IAF statement, in the last 24 hrs, major operations have also been carried out in flood affected areas of Haryana. Villages of Nihara, Allaudin Majra, Bishangarh, Segta, Bhunni, Mumni, Segti and Jansui were provided with relief materials consisting of rations, tarpaulin sheets, fresh food and water bottles by M-17 helicopters.

“Airwarriors and all requisite assets such as M-17 and Chinook Helicopters and AN-32 and C-130 Transport Aircraft remain on standby to undertake required operations,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the weather office has warned that widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to continue over Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh during the next 5 days. Isolated heavy rainfall is also very likely over Himachal Pradesh and East Rajasthan during next 5 days.
