India’s daily count of fresh COVID cases surges to 7,240, Mumbai is worst hit

According to the New York Post, scientists have, perhaps strangely, revived some of these so-called "zombie viruses" from the Siberian permafrost in order to investigate the awakening critters

India reported 7,240 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday, a nearly 40 per cent jump from the day ago, as infections soared sharply in several states including Maharashtra and Kerala, according to figures compiled by the Union Health Ministry.

On Wednesday Maharashtra reported 2,701 fresh cases, its highest infection count since January 25. As many as 1,765 of these infections were reported from Mumbai which is a four-month high for the city.

Daily coronavirus infections in India crossed 5,000 after 94 days  taking the total tally of active cases to 32,498. 

There were eight deaths due to the disease, official figures updated at 8 am showed.
