India’s daily count of fresh COVID-19 cases falls below 1 lakh, schools re-open in five states

India’s daily count of fresh COVID-19 infections slowed to 83,876 cases in the last 24 hours, falling below the 1 lakh mark for the first time since January 6, according to data released by the Health Ministry on Monday.

The country’s active caseload currently stands at 11,08,938.

The positivity rate, which shows the number of positive cases for every 100 tests, was recorded at 7.25 per cent.

Schools have been re-opened for students in Classes 9 to 12 in five states after the decline in Covid cases.

Delhi reported 1,410 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, while the positivity rate in the national capital fell to 2.45 per cent.

Maharashtra on Sunday reported 9,666 new coronavirus positive cases, taking the state's infection tally to 78,03,700, while the death of 66 persons took the death count to 1,43,074.

Meanwhile, under its nationwide vaccination drive, India has administered 169.63 crore vaccine doses.
