Pit bull, Rottweiler banned as pets in Ghaziabad

Ghaizabad

The spate of incidents involving pet dogs biting and mauling grown ups and children has made the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation decide to ban the domestication of dogs belonging to three breeds. These breeds are pit bull, Rottweiler and Dogo Argentino.

This means that in future no one can own and keep these breeds and in case of those who presently own these dogs, they will have to get these pets registered.

Sharing details about this ban, the Deputy Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Anuj Singh said: “Owners will not be able to buy new dogs. The existing ones will have to be properly sterilised, vaccinated and registered. A period of two months has been provided for owners to do this. If the deadline is exceeded then owners would have to give away the dog elsewhere or sell it off.”

Pet parents of dogs have to register them through the Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam pet registration app, and pay an annual fee of Rs.1,000. They will need to furnish details about the pet, including its age, breed and rabies vaccination.

Those who don’t register will be fined Rs.5,000.

It may be recalled that a similar order was passed last month in Haryana’s Panchkula where owning pit bulls and Rottweilers was banned.
