France came up with a brilliant performance to end Morocco’s historic run with a 2-0 victory and set up a title clash with Argentina for the FIFA World Cup.
Goals from Theo Hernandez in the 5th minute and substitute Randal Kolo Muani in the 79th took defending champions France into a fourth World Cup final and they now have a chance to become the first team to retain the title since Brazil 60 years ago.
French superstar Mbappé played a key role in both the goals. He had shot to fame by leading France to the World Cup title in 2018 and will now battle 35-year-old Messi, who has dominated the game with Cristiano Ronaldo for the past 15 years and is playing in his last World Cup.
The French team was cheered by the country’s President, Emmanuel Macron, from the stands and he later went to the locker room to congratulate the team after the match.
Supported by thousands of fans, Morocco put up a tough fight and the French defence faced several tense moments while fending off attacks from the African nation’s forwards. These included a late save from the goalline and Morocco striking the goalpost with a superb bicycle kick.
