Pakistan link detected in Ahmedabad school bomb threat probe

In a development to the Ahmedabad schools bomb threat case, the crime branch has uncovered a Pakistani link to the bomb threats that targeted at least 14 schools in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad.

The bomb threats in schools were received on May 6, just a day before the Prime Minister’s visit for polling in the state .

Initially, it was discovered that the threatening emails originated from a Russian domain, specifically from an email address, tauheedl@mail.ru.

However, further investigation revealed a connection to a military cantonment in Pakistan, according to Sharad Singhal, JCP Ahmedabad Crime Branch

The threatening emails, initially treated as rumors, were traced back to an individual known as Tohik Liyakat, who operated from Pakistan under the name Ahmed Javed.

Another agency’s investigation also unearthed his involvement in suspicious activities.

At least 14 schools in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad received bomb threats via email on Monday.

The Ahmedabad Police jumped into action on receiving the emails and started an investigation. The police did not find any suspect or explosives at any of the schools, they said.

Earlier this month, a total of 131 schools in Delhi received threat emails on May 1.

However, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued an official statement calling the email a “hoax.”

“There is no need to panic. The mail appears to be a hoax. Delhi Police and security agencies are taking necessary steps as per protocol,” the official release from the MHA read.
