A Tesla Model Y electric car caught fire after suddenly powering down with thick smoke flowing into the cabin from the vents. The owner of the car who was driving to a nearby golf course was stuck inside with all the doors getting locked. He eventually had to smash his way out of the window of the car to escape. The incident happened on Friday at North Vancouver in Canada.

“I had to smash the window to get out of the car. I kicked through the window. Everything stops. The power didn’t work. The door didn’t open," Jutha can be heard saying in the video.

It took the fire department personnel about five minutes to extinguish the fire.

According to the auto-tech website Electrek, Jamil Jutha was driving in his Tesla Model Y that he bought just eight months ago.
