Spain seizes Russian billionaire’s $140 million Superyacht

Spain has seized a Russian billionaire’s $140 million superyacht in Barcelona, the country’s Prime Minister announced on Monday.</p>
<p>
"Today we seized – the technical term is provisionally immobilised – a yacht belonging to one of the principal oligarchs," Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on television. "We are talking about a yacht that we estimate is worth $140 million."</p>
<p>
He also said more such superyachts belonging to Russian oligarch’s will be seized in the coming days.</p>
<p>
Monitoring site Marine Traffic has said that yachts linked to two other oligarchs who are not yet sanctioned are also docked in Barcelona.</p>
<p>
The 85-metre superyacht Valerie belongs to Sergei Chemezov, a former KGB officer who heads state conglomerate Rostec, according to a Reuters report. </p>
<p>
The vessel is registered in the name of Chemezov's stepdaughter, Anastasia Ignatova, through a British Virgin Islands company.</p>
<p>
The yacht has been in Barcelona since Feb 9, according to Marine Traffic, and was until Monday under repair at a shipyard in Barcelona.</p>
