Sheikh Hasina slams vested interests for Durga Puja violence, affirms Bangladesh will not go “backwards”

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that a few with vested interests are working towards creating communal divide in the country.</p>
<p>
However, she said that no one can make Bangladesh go backwards. “Some of the incidents that we occasionally see are orchestrated. It is being done intentionally so that Bangladesh's image is damaged," Hasina said while inaugurating the Payra Bridge in southern Bangladesh virtually.</p>
<p>
“No matter how much good we do, there is a quarter that is occupied with discrediting Bangladesh. What do they want? They don't want the normal democratic process to continue in this country," <a href="https://bdnews24.com/bangladesh/2021/10/24/vested-quarters-are-trying-to-tarnish-bangladesh-s-image-says-hasina">bdnews</a> quoted Hasina as saying.</p>

According to the news organisation, Hasina urged citizens to be wary of the attempts to destabilise the country.</p>
<p>
Recently after a social media campaign which showed that a Quran was placed at a Durga Puja venue in Cumilla on October 13, violence broke out in several places in Bangladesh.</p>
<p>
Hindus, comprise 10 per cent of Bangladesh’s population. Hasina, who condemned the incidents and promised action against the perpetrators, has repeatedly underlined the need to uphold secular principles in the country. She has come down heavily on radical elements including members of the Hefazat-e-Islam.</p>
<p>
Hasina has been emphasising the need to focus on boosting the economy and jobs in the country.   </p>
