PM Modi dials South Korean President-elect to reboot special strategic partnership

<p>
<strong>Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on phone today with South Korean President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol and congratulated him on his victory in the recent Presidential elections.</strong></p>
<p>
Both leaders agreed on the importance of further broadening and deepening the India-Korea Special Strategic Partnership, especially in the present global context.<br />
<br />
"They discussed various sectors that offer potential for accelerated bilateral cooperation, and agreed to work together to this end," said the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).<br />
<br />
The leaders also emphasised their desire to jointly celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and South Korea next year. </p>

PM Modi also invited Yoon to visit India at his earliest convenience.</p>

India and South Korea have a strong economic partnership that is rapidly expanding. According to data from Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy (MOTIE), bilateral trade between the two countries reached $23.7 billion in 2021, surpassing $21.5 billion in 2018.<br />
<br />
This was the highest-ever trade volume between the two countries, representing a 40% increase over the previous year's total of $16.9 billion. </p>
