Former Pak PM Imran Khan’s Freudian slip—compares himself to a donkey during podcast

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan is again in the news, but for the wrong reason. Clips of his recent podcast recording are being circulated online in which he is describing his life in the United Kingdom, but a particular phrase has caught the attention of the social media.

“I was very welcome in the UK but I never considered it my home. I was always a Pakistani first. A donkey doesn’t turn into a zebra just because you paint stripes on it. A donkey remains a donkey,” said Imran Khan in his podcast.

For the users on social media, this comparison did not go down well and they have started trolling Imran Khan for his poor choice of words and erratic reference.

In his first podcast, the ousted former premier of Pakistan, Imran Khan used social media enhancers of Pakistan to rebuild his image. In more than an hour recording spoke on various topics including his “differences” with his selector, the Pakistani army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa. Khan said that there were threats of civil war in Afghanistan which is why he did not want to change the intelligence chief Lt Gen Faiz Hameed during difficult times.

"Yet, the opposition created the impression that I wanted the former director-general of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) General Faiz to be the next army chief," he said.

Khan went on to say that he had also learned last year that Nawaz Sharif’s PML-N party was planning to topple his government and that is why he wanted Faiz Hameed to remain as the ISI chief.

“I had already learned about it in July last year that the opposition had made a complete plan to overthrow my government. That's the reason I did not want the intelligence chief to be changed until the winter was over. It wasn't a secret that the intelligence chief is the eyes and ears of the government”, said Khan revealing that former ISI chief Faiz was his main ''trouble-shooter” and helping him to tackle his rivals.

Last month, on April 10, Imran Khan was ousted as the prime minister through a no-confidence vote moved by the opposition in the National Assembly, thus becoming the first Pakistani PM to be booted out of the office.

Since then, Khan had been alleging that his ouster was part of a conspiracy by the US which was not pleased with his visit to Russia.
