No change in our position on Kosovo, says India

Refuting media speculations, India has reiterated that there is no change in its position on Kosovo.

Responding to media queries regarding reports on the opening of the India-Kosovo Commercial Economic Office in New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday that there is no switch in New Delhi’s stance on the landlocked region in the Balkans.

“It is reiterated that our position on Kosovo is well known, and there is no change in it,” said MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi.

Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia on February 17, 2008 but many countries, including India and Russia, do not recognise it as a sovereign and independent state.

India’s position on Kosovo’s UDI (Unilateral Declaration of Independence) has not changed with New Delhi firmly believing that the issue should be resolved peacefully through consultation and dialogue.

Having always taken a very clear position to any issue concerning Kosovo, India has maintained its principled stand and support for Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Serbia too has always shown an understanding of India’s interests and concerns that pertain to Jammu and Kashmir
