India and Israel expand water technology partnership

Experts, startups, academicians and researchers from the water technology sector came together for the two-day ‘Water Innovation Conference’ organised by the Embassy of Israel in India in Uttarakhand, in close collaboration with TiE Dehradun, IIT Roorkee and UPES Dehradun.

Sessions and panel discussions on India-Israel collaboration, Israel-based innovations and partnership opportunities for Israeli and Indian startups in the field of water were held over the weekend during the conference.

“Both countries are close friends and strategic partners, and water security is one of the important pillars of our cooperation. Israel is a leader in the global water sector, and we are happy to share our advanced and cutting-edge water technologies, know-how and expertise with the people of India,” said Ambassador of Israel to India Naor Gilon.

The keynote speaker at the conference was Prof Hadas Mamane, a water specialist who is also the head of the Environmental Engineering Programme and the Water Technology Laboratory at Tel Aviv University.

Dr. Lior Asaf, Water Attache at the Embassy of Israel in India, also took part in the conference. He shared his knowledge and experiences regarding the Israeli model for water management, water technologies, R&D implementation and the Israel-India water partnership. India is the only country where Israel has the position of a ‘Water Attache’ to help share Israeli best practices and technologies for advancements in India’s water management sector.

The first part of the conference was organised on May 17 at IIT Roorkee, which has a close partnership with the Embassy of Israel in India. Recently both countries have signed a Joint Statement of Intent to establish a Center of Water Technology in India at IIT Roorkee. The second part of the conference was organised at UPES Dehradun.
