Foxconn chief to unveil India’s largest prototyping centre in Hyderabad today

India’s largest prototyping centre in Hyderabad – T-Works – will be inaugurated today evening by Young Liu, Foxconn Chairman, who is visiting the country at present. This centre is vital as it will facilitate entrepreneurs to move from the stage of idea to the final product by helping them design and build a prototype, using state-of-the-art equipment, design tools, and mentoring across fields.

Describing T-Works as a unique initiative by the Government, K. Taraka Rama Rao, Telangana’s Information Technology, Electronics and Communications informed that it has all the cutting edge facilities and equipment for prototyping. “It will accelerate India’s journey to become a leader in product innovation,” he said.

Among the facilities available at the centre are engraving and laser cutting, testing lab (environmental, vibration, metrology), 3D printing, electronics lab, garage space, metal and wood shops, ceramics studio, a retail store and library.

The centre is primarily meant for non-IT products and services and manufacturing of physical products. For example, if one wants to make a water bottle from metal, the advanced 3D printing will help to make the prototype in quick time. It is vital to have a prototype which is attractive and functional to convince investors to put money into manufacturing of the product.

As per Dr. Premnath Basa, who is a materials scientist the facility will greatly help innovators. Calling the centre a valuable asset for them, Basa said the infrastructure and machinery will help them to chisel out attractive prototypes. Besides, the availability of experts will help to mentor the ideators to reach the physical manifestation of their ideas.

The facility will provide a conducive atmosphere for innovators to discuss their problems and get help to fine tune their innovations and products.
