Rijiju lays foundation stones for various sports facilities in Ladakh

<div>The Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju today laid foundation stones for various sports facilities costing over Rs 12 crore in Leh, Ladakh.

The minister laid the foundation for a synthetic track and artificial turf for football in Leh at an open stadium. The estimated project cost is Rs 10.68 crore and the project is scheduled to be completed by January, next year.

Rijiju also laid the foundation of a gymnasium hall at the NDS Indoor Stadium which would cost about Rs 1.52 crore and will be completed by March, 2021.

While laying the foundation stone of projects, Rijuju said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government is inculcating a sporting culture in the country which in turn is keeping the people healthy and fit.

He said that Khelo India University Games and Winter Games are encouraging the students, youth and people to participate in sporting activities.

Rijiju said that if the Union Territory administration will send a proposal to develop sporting infrastructure to his ministry, he will provide relaxation to the UT under the Khelo India program and provide funds and facilities.

Local sportspersons excelling in various events would also get an opportunity to train at any of the 23 centers of excellence across the country, depending on their sporting disciplines, he said.

As part of the Fit India movement, Rijiju started the day by participating in a cyclothon along with local MP Jamyang Namgyal and other cyclists.</div>.
