South Central Railway applauded for energy efficiency, wins three Confederation of Indian Industry awards

The South Central Railway zone of the Indian Railways received recognition in three categories for its energy efficiency initiatives. It was bestowed Energy Efficient Unit Awards for three of its administrative units by Confederation of Indian Industry during the 24th National Awards for Excellence in Energy Management-2023.

These awards are declared for the best energy management practices during the year 2023 and were received by the representatives of the respective units at the awards function held at Hyderabad International Convention Centre.

The SCR units that received the award include the Lekha Bhavan that houses the accounts section at Secunderabad; Rail Nilayam, the zonal headquarters at Secunderabad; and the Zonal Railway Training Institute at Moulali. All the three received the Excellent Energy Efficient Unit Awards in the Building Sector.

This year for the first time ZRTI building has secured this recognition.

SCR has been consistently receiving energy conservation awards both at National level and State level for several years and many of its administrative units have been selected for energy efficient unit awards by CII.

It has been the endeavour of this zone to save energy by adopting several measures. These include using energy efficient LED  lighting, inverter type star rated  and precision AC units, HVAC control and temperature monitoring, energy savers and occupancy sensors, solar energy for water heating and electricity generation, timers for water coolers, energy efficient pumps, and star labelled electrical equipment.

Other measures adopted by SCR include optimization of lifts, bifurcation of fan circuits at platforms to switch off 70% fans during non-train periods, and switching off AC units during idling hours.

Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, SCR congratulated Principal Chief Electrical Engineer (PCEE), SCR, Divisional Railway Manager, Hyderabad Division and their teams for achieving this distinction.
