Watch: PM Modi reboots healthcare in Assam and northeast on auspicious Bihu festival

On the auspicious occasion of Bihu today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first All India Institute of Medical Science in North-east India in Guwahati.

The superspeciality hospital built at cost of Rs.1,123 crore will provide healthcare to people of Assam and also other north-eastern States. The hospital has 750 beds including 30 Ayush beds and it will have an annual intake of 100 MBBS students every year.

Further, PM also virtually inaugurated three medical colleges. These are at Nalbari, Nagaon and Kokrajhar and each has an attached 500 bedded teaching hospital with OPD/IPD services, including ICU facilities, OT facilities and emergency services.

Providing a further thrust to healthcare in the State, PM also laid the foundation stone for the Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Institute. This is a joint initiative of the State Government and Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati. He also launched distribution of 1.1 crore Ayushman cards.

On the day of Bihu festival in which PM is expected to take part, people of Assam have arranged a grand welcome. He will witness mega Bihu dance which will feature more than 10,000 performers.

On the way to the venue, PM’s roadshow was accorded a grand welcome by people of Assam. Thousands lined up on road to wave and cheer him.
