Army helicopter crashes in Arunachal hills, 2 killed

Two dead bodies were recovered from the site where a combat helicopter of the army helicopter crashed in Arunachal Pradesh’s Upper Siang district on Friday.

According to reports, the armed Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) crashed in a mountainous area near Migging village at 10:43 am. The helicopter, carrying army personnel, was on a regular sortie after taking off from Likabali this morning.

As there are no motorable roads leading to the village, except a hanging bridge, three joint teams of both army and the air force are engaged in the rescue op with one Mi-17 and two Dhruv helicopters. Local villagers are also said to be involved in the rescue work.

Visuals show part of the wreckage in flames. While a video shows smoke emanating from the site of the crash.

“Received very disturbing news about Indian Army’s Advanced Light Helicopter crash in Upper Siang District in Arunachal Pradesh. My deepest prayers,” wrote Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Twitter.
