The Prime Minister who is known to address people in Himachal Pradesh by their first names as he has worked with them in the past during his stint as a BJP functionary in the state, struck an instant chord with the masses.

Reaching out to the people in his inimitable style, PM Modi asked the jubilant crowd at Solan—will you please agree to do a small task on my behalf when you go back home?

The crowd responded with a thundering– Yes ! that reverberated across the hill state, indicating that many hearts had been won.

“Please convey my ‘pranam’ from door to door,” PM Modi added, to drive the message home.

The Prime Minister left no one in doubt that he was playing the role of a game-changer as he exhorted people to vote for the BJP candidates, saying: “Every single vote cast for the Lotus will come to my credit. Just think that you are giving your vote to Modi Ji.”

PM Modi elicited a rapturous applause from the people each time he recalled his emotional connection with the state. “ I know each mohalla and street in Himachal Pradesh. The gifts I get from the state help me to showcase your rich culture elsewhere in India. Remember I wore ‘Chola-Dora”—a typical Himachali dress when I went to Kedarnath a day before Diwali. It was a gift received from a sister (Lady) from this state” he explained.

Modi also told the people that when he went to Israel he wore a Himachali Cap. Recently when the Nepal Prime Minister came to India I gifted him a Kangra miniature painting, he added.

He also recalled his visit to Shimla.  “I was given a painting of my mother by a young girl. It’s the most precious thing for me as it always reminds me about all my ‘mothers’ in Himachal Pradesh who are always ready to bless you,” he remarked.

“ I feel highly indebted to Himachal Pradesh, which gave me loads of divine  blessings. Now, whenever I do something for the state to make your lives easy, I simply try to repay your debt to me. The position I hold is because of your vote for me in 2014 and 2019”

Modi launched a massive attack against the Congress that is hoping to come back to power as the Himachal voters in the last have been choosing a new government after every 5 years.

“Don’t commit the mistake of favouring the Congress –a party signifying itself as a guarantee of corruption, selfishness and nepotism,” he said.

The Prime Minister said, another name of instability, uncertainty, anarchy and factionalism and instability in the Congress. Yeh daldal hai ( it’s all quicksand) and don’t risk yourself to enter this mess.

Modi sought another five-year term for the BJP on the basis of the party’s track record of development in the state made possible by the double engine government working in tandem.

He reminded the people, at Sunder Nagar and later at Solan, that the trend of changing the governments after five years was neither in the interest of the country nor small states. This should end once for all in the forthcoming polls.

His remarks were aimed to counter Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi –who during a poll rally at Mandi had claimed that the trend of changing the government as followed in Himachal Pradesh is good.
