A massive fire that broke out at Bhagirath Palace market in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk last night has still not been brought completely under control even as 40 fire engines are fighting the blaze.

Fire Department officials said that they were informed about the fire at 9.20 pm, after which they rushed the fire engines to the site.

“The fire broke out in a shop and later spread to the adjacent shops. Fire officials are trying to control the blaze. No casualties have been reported yet,” said a senior Delhi Fire Services officer.

The narrow lanes in the area made it difficult for the fire engines to reach the spot.

“A major part of the building has been damaged and officials are also using remote control fire fighting machines to extinguish the flames,” said Atul Garg, Delhi Fire Service Director.

The fire spread to adjacent buildings in the vicinity with the flames soaring to the overhead electricity lines.
