Flights, train services hit as dense fog descends on Delhi & northern states

A dense layer of fog descended on Delhi and the northern states on Sunday morning lowering visibility which disrupted flights and train services in the region.

As many as 42 trains were running late in the Northern Railway region due to fog and around 20 flights have been delayed at Delhi airport due to weather conditions.

The minimum temperature in Delhi fell to a bone-chilling 1.5 degrees Centigrade.

On Saturday, India Meteorological Department predicted that the cold wave would continue in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh during the next 48 hours and cold day conditions likely to continue over northwest India during the next two days.

The weather office said that due to the continuation of prevailing light winds and high moisture near the surface over Indo-Gangetic plains, dense to very dense fog is very likely to continue in some/many parts during night and morning hours over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and Uttar Pradesh during next two days and in isolated pockets thereafter for subsequent three days over the region.
