The air quality in Delhi continued to remain in the ‘very poor’ category on Tuesday as the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of the city was recorded at 359. Noida, which is part of the national capital region, recorded an AQI of 444 putting it in the ‘severe’ category, while Gurugram’s AQI stood at 391 and continued to remain in the ‘very poor’ category, as per data released by SAFAR-India. The high pollution level in Delhi-NCR was reflected in the thick haze that enveloped the region.
Gurgaon is predicted to slip into ‘severe’ category from Wednesday, November 2. Noida’s air quality is also expected to dip further.
While currently stubble burning accounts for about 22% of the air pollution in Delhi-NCR the situation could worsen. Construction dust continues to be the main cause as most sites are not taking adequate measures to control dust such as the use of water sprinklers and covering materials properly.
