Captain Amarinder stumps Sidhu over Imran Khan link

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan had sent a personal message requesting the then Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to take back Navjot Singh Sidhu in the cabinet after he was dropped as minister, the former chief minister alleged on Monday.

This is the latest revelation made by Amarinder against arch foe Sidhu while terming him a national security threat due to his “proximity to the Pakistani leadership.”

Amarinder also said that Sidhu was the most incompetent person in handling the local bodies portfolio which led to his sacking as minister. “Imran had conveyed to give Sidhu another chance and if he again did not deliver, he could be dropped,” the former chief minister claimed.

Sindhu had also come in for severe criticism earlier for referring to Imran Khan as his “big brother”’ despite the latter being known for his anti-India policy and playing an instrumental role in promoting cross-border terrorism.

Sidhu had earlier courted controversy when he had embraced Pakistan army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa during his visit to Pakistan at the time of the swearing-in ceremony of Imran Khan as the Prime Minister. Amarinder had objected to Sidhu's Pakistan visit but the latter defied him and flew to Islamabad.

Sidhu was instrumental in making Pakistan agree to open the Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib corridor for the Sikhs. But it did not go down well with Amarinder Singh and he labelled Sidhu as a stooge of Imran. It is common knowledge that Sidhu and Imran had been friends from their cricketing days.

Sidhu and Amarinder have been at daggers drawn for a long time and have been issuing statements against each other.

Ultimately, Sidhu had succeeded in convincing the Congress high command to sack Captain as CM and put Charanjit  Channi in the saddle. Amarinder had publicly said that he had been humiliated by the party. He later floated Punjab Lok Congress to contest Punjab elections in alliance with the BJP.
