Working to make Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat a reality, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission has been making several efforts. On Monday, Manoj Kumar, Chairman KVIC participated in three different programmes in which bee-boxes, pickle making machines and automatic agarbatti making machines were distributed in Assam.
Addressing a gathering at Kumarikata village in Baksa district where the Chairman distributed 500 bee-boxes to 50 beekeepers, the Chairman said that the KVIC was running its Honey Mission scheme from the year 2017. So far under this programme, 8,290 bee-boxes and bee-colonies have been distributed after imparting training to 829 beekeepers in Assam.
He exhorted the beekeepers to produce world class honey so that Assam’s honey gets recognised globally. He added that beekeeping provides an additional source of income for farmers while helping them to keep elephants away from human habitat and fields.
Kumar also distributed pickle making machines to 40 beneficiaries and automatic agarbatti machines to 20 beneficiaries in an event organized at KVIC premises, Guwahati. As these machines will help youth and women to become self-employed, he informed the gathering about the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme being implemented by KVIC. Under this up to Rs.50 lakhs is given for the establishment of small industries.
He also inaugurated a pilot project related to the footwear industry at Six-Mile in Guwahati under the Gram Udyog Vikas Yojana.
