After cyberattack on AIIMS, massive hacking bid on ICMR server

Close on the heels of the cyberattack that brought down the AIIMS server in Delhi, at least 6,000 attempts were made to hack the server of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on November 30, according to reliable sources.

The attack on the ICMR website was carried out through a blacklisted IP address based in Hong Kong. However, ICMR’s server firewall did not have any loopholes for the hackers to obtain patient information, sources said.

A detailed report on the hacking attempt is being prepared by the National Informatics Centre (NIC).

After the cyberattack on November 23, the AIIMS Delhi servers were down for over 10 days, affecting services in several departments of the hospital. The attack was suspected to have been carried out by Chinese hackers.

On December 4, the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi also faced a cyberattack as well, but the damage was not as severe as the attack on AIIMS. The server is reported to have been down for a day after which the National informatics Centre (NIC) revived the systems.
