At least 30 people were injured after a tanker crashed into several vehicles at Pune’s Navale bridge on Sunday, resulting in 48 vehicles piling up on the Pune-Bengaluru highway, a Pune Fire Brigade official said.
According to local media, the brakes of a tanker failed and it collided into several vehicles spilling oil on the road and making it slippery which resulted in other vehicles skidding and ramming into each other. The accident took place at 9 pm which made it difficult for drivers on the highway to anticipate the magnitude of the mishap.
“A major road accident occurred at Navale bridge on the Pune-Bengaluru highway in Pune in which about 48 vehicles got damaged. Rescue teams from the Pune Fire Brigade and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) have reached the spot,” a Pune Fire Brigade official said.
Rescue teams from the Pune Fire Brigade and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority have rushed to the site of the accident.
The accident has led to a massive 2 km long traffic jam on the highway to Mumbai.
