The authorities have decided to impose a week-end curfew in Delhi and work from home for government offices to contain the surge in Covid cases driven by Omicron.
The COVID-19 cases in Delhi continued to see a rising trend with 5,481 new infections reported in the last 24 hours pushing the positivity rate to 8.37 per cent, the highest in over seven months.
Announcing the new curbs, Sisodia said most offices would have to make half their employees work from home.
"DDMA has decided to impose a curfew in Delhi on Saturdays and Sundays to curb the COVID surge. All government officials except for those engaged in essential services will work from home. As much 50% workforce of private offices will work from home," Sisodia told reporters.
However, it has been decided to allow buses and the Delhi Metro to operate at full capacity as keeping 50% seats vacant was leading to long queues and crowding at bus stops and metro stations which posed a higher risk of spreading Covid infections, Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said.
