Daily count of fresh COVID-19 cases in Delhi surges to 3-month high

<p>
The daily count of fresh COVID-19 cases in Delhi surged to a three-month high of 1,607 on Friday, taking the total number of coronavirus patients in the city to 5,609, according to data compiled by the state government.</p>
<p>
The city reported the highest number of fresh infections since February 4 this year when 2,272 cases were recorded, according to the Delhi health department. The daily case positivity rate stands at 5.28 per cent.</p>
<p>
As many as 1,246 COVID patients recovered from the disease yesterday.</p>
<p>
Two persons died due to COVID in the last 24 hours.</p>
<p>
As per the official data, more than 30,000 COVID samples were tested in the city yesterday.</p>
<p>
Meanwhile, nationwide 3,688 new COVID-19 infections were recorded in the last 24 hours, according to information provided by the Union Ministry of Health on Saturday.</p>
<p>
The country had registered as many as 3,377 COVID-19 cases on Friday. The Health Ministry informed that active cases in the country have increased to 18,684.</p>
<p>
With 4,96,640 COVID-19 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the cumulative tally has risen to 83.74 crore tests.</p>
<p>
The country reported 50 COVID-related deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative death tally since the outbreak of the pandemic to 5,23,803.</p>
<p>
The daily positivity rate rose to 0.74% from 0.71 per cent on Friday. The weekly positivity rate went up to 0.66 per cent on Saturday from 0.63 per cent on the previous day.</p>
<p>
Meanwhile,  22,58,059 doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered during this period. With this, the total number of vaccine jabs administered under the nationwide vaccination drive so far in the country has gone past the 188.9 crore   mark.</p>
