Tax department launches board game to teach children how to handle finances

You could soon get a snake and ladder board game that actually teaches you the good and bad habits in respect of tax events and financial transactions.

Or even a set of memory cards, which will enable a child to learn the concepts and importance of paying taxes.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBTD) has adopted a novel approach to spread tax literacy through 'learn by play' methods with a view to increasing awareness and tax literacy especially among children.

An official statement issued on Sunday said that moving beyond text based literature, awareness seminars and workshops, the CBDT has adopted a novel approach to spread tax literacy through 'learn by play' methods.

CBDT has brought out products to introduce concepts related to taxation, often perceived to be complicated, to high school students through board games, puzzles and comics.

Kick-starting this initiative, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched a series of communication and outreach products aimed at spreading financial and tax awareness at the closing ceremony of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Iconic Week in Goa.

She termed the next 25 years as Amrit Kaal, and said that the country’s youth would play a major role in shaping the new India. Sitharaman also distributed the first sets of the games to select school students present at the event.
