Pranay Kr Verma to assume charge as India’s ambassador to Bangladesh

Pranay Kumar Verma, India's new ambassador to Bangladesh

Newly-appointed Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Kumar Verma will take over from Vikram Doraiswami. The latter has been appointed as the country’s envoy to the UK. As per protocol, Verma, a 1994-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, will formally assume office after he submits his credentials to Bangladesh President M Abdul Hamid.

Prior to this posting, Verma was India’s ambassador to Vietnam. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on Bangladesh in his Neighbourhood First policy, Verma, a seasoned diplomat, will play a critical role in taking forward the bilateral diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Earlier, Verma, a mechanical engineer, has served as joint secretary of the East Asia Division at the Ministry of External Affairs. Apart from this, he was also posted as joint secretary for external relations at the Department of Atomic Energy.
