PM Modi expected in New York to address UNGA session on September 25

<p>
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address the UN General Assembly in New York in person on September 25.</p>
<p>
During his stay, he could participate in the first summit of the Indo-Pacific Quad which, besides India, includes Japan, Australia and the United States.</p>
<p>
US President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister—Suga and the Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison are also expected to address the UNGA session.</p>

According to a provisional list of speakers released by the UN headquarters, the  Covid-19 situation, which is under sharper focus on account of the Delta variant of the virus which is swirling in the United States, will weigh- in for deciding the final list of speakers. </p>
<p>
PTI is reporting that PM Modi is scheduled as the first speaker to address the UNGA on the morning of September 25.</p>
<p>
Modi had travelled to New York in 2019 for the UNGA session, but last year, world leaders, including Modi, had submitted pre-recorded video messages– an option that is available this year as well.</p>
<p>
The General Debate begins on September 21 and US President Joe Biden is expected to deliver his maiden address to the world body as head of state.</p>
