Mumbai airport deploys 45 electric vehicles to cut carbon footprint

Mumbai airport has deployed 45 electric vehicles (EVs) in order to cut its carbon footprint by replacing petrol and diesel vehicles.

Adani Group-owned Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) said, in addition to the 45 EVs being introduced this month, the airport is also exploring the deployment of another 60 EVs in the next fiscal year.

The next batch of EVs will also include ambulances, forward command posts, security and airside operations and maintenance utility vehicles, according to a MIAL statement.

“The remaining vehicles will be replaced in a phased manner. Mumbai airport is also planning to engage with stakeholders operating at the airport to switch to EVs in support of the operational net zero by 2029 goal,” said a MIAL spokesperson.

The MIAL has recently commissioned 12 DC fast EV charging stations at – multi-level car parking (MLCP) at Terminal 1, P5-MLCP at Terminal 2, and at the airside. “This initiative will help in reducing around 25% of greenhouse gas emissions caused by burning of fossil fuel in mobility,” according to the MIAL statement.
