GST collection jumps 27% to Rs 1.47 lakh crore in Sept

The gross goods and services tax (GST) revenue collection for September stood at Rs 1,47,686 crore – an increase of 27 per cent compared to a year ago period. As GST is mainly a consumption tax, it gives a better picture of consumer confidence and reflects robust economic activities. This is the seventh straight month that GST collection has remained more than Rs 1.4 lakh crore.

GST collection was highest among Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana among others.

Of the total, CGST (Central GST) collection was Rs 25,271 crore, SGST (State GST) at Rs 31,813 crore and IGST (Integrated GST) made up for Rs 80,464 crore.

September also witnessed the second highest single day collection of Rs 49,453 crore on the 20th of the last month with second highest number of 8.77 lakh challans filed, next only to Rs 57,846 crore collected on July 20 this year through 9.58 lakh challans, which pertained to end of the year returns, an official statement said, adding that this is clear indication that the GST portal maintained by GSTN has fully stabilized and is glitch free.
