India and Bangladesh set to focus on digital economy

India moving towards a cashless economy

As New Delhi and Dhaka look to increase connectivity and cooperation in the digital space, India will play an important role in helping to build a digital Bangladesh.

Bangladesh’s state minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak described India as “a close friend in the process of building digital Bangladesh.”

He also outlined several areas of cooperation between the two countries, All India Radio’s News Services Division said.  The minister was speaking on the occasion of the award of tender to set up 6 Bangladesh-Bharat digital service employment and training centres in 6 districts of the south Asian nation.

Speaking at an event hosted by the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) to mark the 50th anniversary of the India Bangladesh diplomatic relations in December, Shringla said that the two countries will focus more on increasing cooperation in the digital space.

“India and Bangladesh will co-operate increasingly, as the pandemic cooperation between healthcare professionals has shown, in the digital space.

He also said that fintech, digital payment solutions and digital enablers fostered by flagship programmes  such as the JAM – the Jan Dhan Aadhaar Mobile trinity, UPI are some of the areas of increased cooperation in the future.
