Drunk student on New York-Delhi flight urinates on fellow flyer

A drunk student on a Delhi-bound American Airlines flight from New York allegedly urinated on a fellow male passenger in the plane on Saturday night, according to a PTI report.

The incident allegedly took place on flight number AA292, which took off from New York at 9:16 pm on Friday and landed in Delhi at 10:12 pm on Saturday.

“The accused is a student in a US university. He was in a state of inebriation and urinated while he was asleep. It somehow leaked and fell on a fellow passenger who complained to the crew,” PTI cited a source at the airport as saying.

The victim did not want any legal action in the matter as the student apologised and he did not want harm his career. However, the pilot went by the rule book and informed Air Traffic Control (ATC) at the IGI airport about the incident.

The CISF personnel were alerted and they handed over the accused to the Delhi Police who are looking into the matter.

According to the Civil Aviation Rules, if a passenger is found guilty of unruly behaviour he can be banned from flying for a certain period or even face criminal action in the case of a grave offence.

Earlier a similar incident had taken place on a New York-Delhi flight in an Air India plane in which a senior business executive Shankar Mishra had allegedly urinated on an elderly woman after being heavily drunk and completely unaware of his surroundings.

The DGCA imposed a fine of Rs 30 lakh on Air India for not reporting the matter within 12 hours of the incident in accordance with the norm.

Air India had in fact initiated action in the matter only when the lady had complained to the Tata Group chairman about the incident.

While the Delhi Police is investigating the matter, Mishra has been banned from flying for four months. Mishra was later arrested by the Delhi police from Bengaluru and is now facing trial. He has been banned from flying for four months.
