Yusuf Hussain, veteran actor and Hansal Mehta’s father-in-law dies due to Covid-19

Yusuf Hussain, veteran TV and film actor passed away today due to Covid-19 in Mumbai

Seasoned actor Yusuf Hussain who irrespective of his screen time in films and television shows left an impact on the audience, passed away today. He was 73 and died to due to Covid-19.

He died this morning at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital, where he was being treated, Hansal Mehta, the well-known filmmaker said.

Condolences poured in from members of the film fraternity who expressed their shock and sorrow at the passing of this actor.

Mehta, married to Hussain’s daughter Safeena, wrote a moving and touching post on the Instagram. Sharing his picture, Mehta wrote: “I had completed 2 schedules of Shahid. And we were stuck. I was troubled. A non-existent career as a filmmaker was almost finished completely. He just came up to me and said I have a fixed deposit and it is of no use to me if you are so troubled. He wrote a cheque. Shahid was completed. That was Yusuf Husain. Not my father-in-law but a father…Yusuf Saab I owe this new life to you. I am truly orphaned today. Life will never be the same. I will miss you terribly. My Urdu will remain broken. And yes – love you love you love you!”

Actors Abhishek Bachchan and Manoj Bajpayee also mourned Hussain’s death on Twitter. The former who had acted with him in “Kuch Naa Kaho” and his forthcoming movie “Bob Biswas”, tweeted: "#RIP Yusuf ji. We worked together in several films starting with Kuch na kaho and lastly on Bob Biswas. He was gentle, kind and full of warmth. Condolences to his family."

Bajpayee wrote on his Twitter: "Sad News!!! Condolences to Safeena and Hansal Mehta and the entire family!!! Rest in peace Yusuf saab.”

Reading Mehta’s message about his father-in-law, actor Pooja Bhatt, said: "This brought tears to my eyes Hansal. Can't begin to imagine what you'll are feeling. My deepest condolences to all!"

Hussain was seen in several TV shows and films over decades and essayed diverse roles and characters. Among his notable and hit films are “Raees”, “Dhoom 2”, “Dil Chahta Hai”, “Raaz”, “Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi”, “Dhoom”, “Shahid”, “Krrish 3”, and “Dabangg 3”.

On TV he made his presence felt in shows like Mullah Nasruddin”, “Kumkum: Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan” and “CID”.
