Watch: World-famous Venice canals go dry

Venice, renowned world over for its famous network of canals, is facing an acute problem as these channels are going dry due to lack of rainfall and low tides.

These waterways are vital for the place as they allow water taxis and gondolas to navigate through them.

Usually from October to January the metropolis faces flooding. Yet due to a variety of reasons the canals have become dry. Lack of rainfall is partially to blame as there were weeks of dry winter while the sea currents and full moon also played a part.

Besides the traditional gondolas and water taxis, the city’s vital water ambulances are also struggling.

A UNESCO World Heritage site, the city of Venice was founded in the 5th Century AD and is spread over 118 small islands.
