Interviewing his senior colleague in the Team India pace department, young pace sensation Umran Malik quizzed Mohammed Shami on how he manages to stay calm in high-pressure matches.
“When you are playing for the country, you should not take pressure on yourself,” Shami advised Malik in a BCCI interview done after the second ODI against New Zealand in Raipur over the weekend.
“One can tend to get carried away under pressure but by keeping cool and trusting your skills, you have a better opportunity to execute your plans. When you are doing well, then the importance of focussing is more,” the pacer from Amroha added.
Shami told Malik that he has a great future and should continue to focus on his line and length.
“You have a lot of spirit. Your future is great, my best wishes to you. One advice for you, you have a lot of pace and it’s not easy playing it. Just focus on your line and length a bit more, when you get that in control, you can be on top of the world,” was Shami’s advice to Malik.
The third and final one-dayer between both the sides is being played in Indore today.
