Uber passengers surprised as company’s CEO takes the wheel

Uber passengers were in for a surprise, that too a pleasant one as they discovered that the person on the wheels of the vehicle was none other than the company’s top honcho.

Two users of Uber cab-hailing service in Delhi and Gurgaon to their disbelief found that their cab was being driven by the company’s Indian and South Asia President Prabhjeet Singh.

One of them was Ananya Dwivedi, who had booked the cab to go to office. On her LinkedIn post of March 6 she wrote: “Guess who was driving the car, Prabhjeet Singh, Uber India chief executive officer (CEO). It was a part of his primary research. (I initially felt something is fishy and had to google his name and match the face to finally believe him). The serendipity is real! Also, it takes real humility as well as grit to get to the roots of the problems.”

The second user, Madhuvanthi Sundararajan, too was amazed. She wrote: “I got ready to leave to office and booked an Uber. The Uber driver immediately pinged ‘I am on my way’ without asking for my drop location. I was already very impressed! I waited downstairs when the car came into my society. The driver said – ‘Hi Madhuvanthi, I am the CEO of Uber India and you are my first passenger today. Would you be willing to do this ride?” Hailing his action, she said: “Huge respect for wanting to understand things on-ground.”

An alumnus of IIT Kharagpur and IIM Ahmedabad, Singh became Uber’s president of India and South Asia in 2020.
