‘The Big Bull’, ‘Hello Charlie’, ‘Ajeeb Daastans’, ‘Raat Baki Hai’ star in new OTT releases

Over the top platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+Hotstar, ZEE5, AltBalaji, SonyLIV and Apple TV Plus this month are all set to entertain with all new web series and films, hoping to cash in on the second wave Covid-19, which is once again pushing people indoors.

While the list is exhaustive, here some which are bound to be thrilling and engaging.

The Big Bull

The wait to watch Abhishek Bachchan is over. Yes, on April 8, his film inspired by the real-life events of the financial market that took place between 1990 and 2000 involving Harshad Mehta will be streamed.

Earlier slated to be shown in theatres due to Covid-19 it was moved to OTT.

The crime drama film is directed by Kookie Gulati, produced by Ajay Devgn, Anand Pandit, Vikrant Sharma and Kumar Mangat Pathak. Abhishek essays the main role of Mehta with his Nikita Dutta, Ileana D'Cruz, Sohum Shah, Ram Kapoor and Saurabh Shukla as his co-stars.

The film’s teaser has Abhishek’s fans cheering as it shows him in silhouette with Ajay Devgn's voice over. One can hear Devgn say, "The Big Bull, mother of all scams," with a nice background score.

Joji

This Malayalam movie will be streamed from April 7 promises to be an interesting fare. A crime drama, promising to keep the viewers on the edge, is based on William Shakespeare’s greatest tragedy Macbeth.

The film centres on Joji (Fahadh Faasil), an engineering dropout and the youngest scion of a rich plantation family. Though he aspires to become a superrich NRI, his dad perceives him as a loser. With avarice and blind ambition driving him, Joji plans to do something unexpected. Watch him to know if he succeeds or not?

Directed by Dileesh Pothan, the story is by Syam Pushkaran, and features Baburaj, Shammi Thilakan, Unnimaya Prasad, and Alister Alex along with Faasil. If the teaser, which shows Joji fishing for something that's seemingly dragging his line to the depths of the pond is a clue, then viewers should expect the unexpected!

Hello Charlie

The Hindi-comedy film is written and directed by Pankaj Saraswat. The film to be streamed from April 9 stars Aadar Jain, Jackie Shroff, Shlokka Pandit, Rajpal Yadav and Elnaaz Norouzi.

The film revolves around a plot which sees a young and simple man Chirag Rastogi aka Charlie (Aadar Jain) being assigned the responsibility of transporting a gorilla to Diu from Mumbai.

The trailer reveals how the billionaire’s (Shroff) escapade in a gorilla costume leads to a series of comedy of errors. There are other hilarious characters too which add to the fun in the film.

A strict family entertainer, the makers promise to leave the audience smiling.

The Big Day: Collection 2

The Big Day that showcased what goes into the planning of big fat Indian weddings is going to be back with a bang with its second season. The highly anticipated show promises to bigger and grander journeys of weddings and will be streamed from April 7.

The series will feature six new couples and their grand journey of Indian wedding ceremonies. From laughter to tears, the emotional ride of the couples also includes a few international ones. The series also does well to document the unison of different cultures.

Ajeeb Daastans

To be streamed from April 16, this anthology Ajeeb Daastans is being eagerly awaited by viewers. It features four stories directed by filmmakers Shashank Khaitan, Raj Mehta, Neeraj Ghaywan and Kayoze Irani.

It is produced by Karan Johar, described the film as a collaborative effort yet uniquely individual. He added that it presents four exceptionally talented directors coming together to weave four individual stories that are stranger than reality itself.

The anthology revolves around female characters played by Shefali Shah, Aditi Rao Hydari, Konkona Sen Sharma, Nushrratt Bharuccha and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The four shorts explore the themes of jealousy, entitlement, prejudices and toxicity which are often entangled within the heart of relationships.

ZEE5

Raat Baaki Hai

This mystery thriller based on Atul Satya’s popular play Ballygunge 1990 is set in Rajasthan. Featuring Paoli Dam, Anup Soni and Rahul Dev in the lead roles, it is described as a tale of love, deceit and revenge.

The story revolves around one night where two estranged lovers end up meeting each other after 12 years under strange circumstances. The twist is that one of them is a murder suspect.

The film directed by Avinash Das will be streamed from April 16.
